Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the rapid implementation of two modern waste-to-energy projects in Aminbazar and Matuail, Dhaka. He issued this directive at a meeting held on Sunday (July 12) morning at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Secretariat.

During the meeting, it was informed that a power plant would be constructed in Aminbazar under the Dhaka North City Corporation, with investment from China’s CMEC Group. This plant will utilize approximately 3,000 tons of waste daily to generate 42.5 megawatts of electricity. As per the plan, electricity supply to the national grid will commence in August 2028, ensuring uninterrupted power generation for the subsequent 25 years.

Additionally, South Korea’s B&F Company will implement a waste management and power generation project in Matuail under the Dhaka South City Corporation. This project aims to produce approximately 105,000 tons of methane gas annually by utilizing 3,000 to 3,500 tons of waste daily. The target is to generate approximately 81,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per year from this gas.

The Prime Minister instructed the organization of an inter-ministerial meeting involving the Ministries of Local Government, Power, and Environment for the rapid implementation of these two projects. He also emphasized ensuring the timely execution of the projects and maximizing the use of environmentally friendly technologies.

The meeting was attended by relevant senior officials, including Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, State Minister Meer Shah Alam, administrators of Dhaka North and South City Corporations, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A.B.M. Abdus Sattar, and Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon.
