Amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, news of a new attack in Iran has emerged. Iran’s local administration claims that its naval military area in the southern city of Konarak was targeted by airstrikes from fighter jets. However, the United States has explicitly stated that it has no involvement in this recent attack.

According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Mohammad Younes Hakkani, the governor of Sistan and Baluchestan province, stated that the Konarak naval military zone was subjected to two rounds of airstrikes, with two consecutive explosions heard. Following the attack, rescue teams, security forces, and relevant agencies promptly arrived at the scene to commence rescue and investigation operations. The perpetrators behind the attack and the extent of the damage have not yet been officially announced.

Meanwhile, a US defense official informed Al Jazeera that American forces have not conducted any new attacks inside Iran in recent hours. While refraining from commenting on the cause of the recent explosions, the official explicitly stated that the United States is not involved in these incidents.

On the other hand, fearing further deterioration of the situation, Tehran has initiated diplomatic efforts. Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, held urgent telephone discussions with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Salman regarding the regional security situation. Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated that the two leaders exchanged views on the ongoing conflict, the recent attack, and the overall security landscape in the Middle East.

Previously, the United States had admitted to attacking military installations in Iran’s Bushehr, Chabahar, Bandar Abbas, and Jask areas. However, Washington’s denial of involvement in the latest explosions in Konarak raises new questions about the true origin of the attack.

According to analysts, the combination of a new attack, the US denial of responsibility, and Iran’s urgent diplomatic contact with Saudi Arabia simultaneously, is making the situation in the Middle East even more complex. A further escalation of the conflict could have significant repercussions on the Strait of Hormuz, global energy markets, and regional security.
