A Pakistani delegation led by Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir has arrived in Iran’s capital Tehran, where they are conveying a new message from the US and trying to advance a second round of talks.

Pakistan Army’s media wing said the country’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is also staying in Tehran as part of ongoing mediation efforts.

Iran has confirmed that the two sides have continued indirect contact with Pakistan after the first round of talks with the US failed in Islamabad over the weekend.

This diplomatic activity comes at a time when Donald Trump has asked the world to be ready for “extraordinary two days”, expressing optimism about the quick end of the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Earlier, Trump had commented, “is doing excellent work with the mediation of Asim Munir and only because of his efforts can the negotiators return to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, a fragile two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran remains in effect, which is expected to remain in force until April 22.

Mediators are trying to broker a compromise on three major unresolved issues: Iran’s nuclear program, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran’s compensation for wartime damage.
