Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the concerned administration and party activists to take swift action to stand by the people affected by continuous heavy rainfall and floods across the country. He has urged BNP leaders and activists to stand by the distressed people, in addition to instructing to strengthen rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts in the disaster-stricken areas.

Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibly informed this on Friday (July 10).

He stated that due to continuous rainfall, the flood situation has deteriorated in various districts across the country, including Dhaka and Chittagong. Numerous families have been affected. The Prime Minister is constantly monitoring the situation and maintaining regular contact with the respective Deputy Commissioners.

The Press Secretary informed that the Prime Minister has instructed the administration to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the affected people and to deliver relief aid quickly.

He further added that the Prime Minister, not just as the head of government but also as the Chairman of BNP, has instructed the party’s grassroots workers to promptly go to the affected areas and participate in rescue and humanitarian aid activities. He particularly emphasized relocating people trapped in risky areas to safe shelters.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s Spokesperson Mahadi Amin stated that the Chittagong region has been the most severely affected by the sudden natural disaster. Public life has been disrupted by floods caused by several days of continuous heavy rainfall. To tackle the situation, the Prime Minister has already issued a 10-point directive, and the overall situation in the disaster-stricken areas is being monitored under his direct supervision.

The government has stated that all necessary assistance will continue to protect the lives and property of flood-affected people, and relevant agencies have been directed to work with maximum vigilance until the situation normalizes.
